Project Overview

A full website design and development project for a Filipino fusion restaurant in Bali — focused on combining cultural storytelling with a seamless user experience to drive reservations and brand engagement.

The Client

Kilig Filipino Warung is a Filipino fusion restaurant in Ubud, Bali — built around the emotional concept of “kilig”, that joyful, heart-fluttering feeling rooted in Filipino culture.

The brand blends soulful food, tropical ambiance, and heartfelt hospitality — attracting both locals and international tourists looking for a memorable dining experience.

The Challenge

The client needed a website built from scratch — not just to establish an online presence, but to translate a deeply emotional and cultural concept into a digital experience.

Key challenges included:

  • Defining a clear and culturally rooted brand identity
  • Translating the feeling of “kilig” into design and storytelling
  • Structuring a menu-heavy experience without overwhelming users
  • Creating a seamless flow for reservations, inquiries, and events
  • Balancing aesthetic storytelling with conversion-focused UX

The goal: To design a website that feels warm, inviting, and culturally authentic — while still being structured to convert visitors into actual diners.

The Approach

Website Design

  • Designed the full experience in Figma, focusing on clarity, hierarchy, and storytelling
  • Built narrative-driven sections like “Love in Every Kagat” to reinforce emotional branding
  • Structured content to guide users naturally from discovery → menu → reservation
  • Prioritized mobile-first design, considering tourist behavior and on-the-go browsing
  • Created custom layouts for key conversion sections (Menu, Reservations, Events)

Development & Frontend Build

  • Developed the site on WordPress with a focus on performance, scalability, and ease of content management
  • Optimized image-heavy sections (menu & gallery) for fast loading without sacrificing visual quality
  • Implemented custom reservation and inquiry flows to reduce friction
  • Integrated blog and events system to support SEO and ongoing marketing

Key Features

  • Structured, easy-to-navigate menu system across multiple categories
  • Streamlined reservation system with date, time, and guest inputs
  • Dedicated flows for catering and event inquiries
  • Blog and events integration for visibility and engagement
  • Fully responsive experience across mobile, tablet, and desktop

Results

  • Successfully launched in time for the 2025 Ubud Food Festival, supporting brand visibility during a key event
  • Improved user flow for reservations and inquiries, creating a more seamless booking experience
  • Strengthened brand positioning through a cohesive visual and storytelling-driven website
  • Built a scalable foundation for future expansion, including additional locations and digital offerings

Key Takeaways

  • Emotional branding drives engagement. Translating culture into design creates stronger connections with users.
  • Clarity converts. Even visually rich websites need structured navigation and clear user flow.
